WHAT IS BRA DAY USA?
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among U.S. women after skin cancer — accounting for nearly 1 in 3 cases.1 For those women diagnosed with breast cancer and in need of a mastectomy, approximately 7 out of 10 are not aware of their breast reconstruction options. As a result, less than 1 in 5 American women who undergo a mastectomy go on to have breast reconstruction.2
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, or BRA Day USA, will be launched on October 17, 2012, by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF). The initiative is designed to promote education, awareness, and access to breast reconstruction options following a mastectomy. The goals of BRA Day include providing post mastectomy breast reconstruction information as early as possible after diagnosis, and giving patients access to plastic surgeons and other medical professionals who will work together in the patients’ best interest.
HOW IS SIENTRA INVOLVED?
As the exclusive breast implant sponsor of BRA Day USA, Sientra is proud to have a role in closing the loop on breast cancer reconstruction awareness by helping to ensure all women are educated on their reconstructive options post mastectomy. We view this support as an integral part of our continued commitment to the safety and well-being of patients. We are passionate about our partnership with BRA Day USA and look forward to being a leading sponsor of this effort for the long term.
" We are excited to have Sientra as a sponsor of BRA Day USA and feel,
as a trusted supplier of breast implants and tissue expanders, they understand the
impact that reconstructive surgery can have on the lives of breast cancer survivors.
With their support, the ASPS and the PSF will be able to significantly
raise awareness of women's breast reconstruction options. "
